Luke Soren Nielsen

As a lifelong musician, Luke Soren Nielsen’s upbringing in Alaska lends themes of space, nature, and isolation to his artistic work.

Luke’s work under Joshua Moshier included sound design, copyist work, performing trumpet and guitar on various projects, technical troubleshooting in the studio, producing demos, contracting musicians for session work, and assisting in the development of interactive sound effects and music for mobile games.

In films, Luke was Score Programmer for Beneath Us by Max Pachman, a politically charged slasher movie. This project involved engineering recording sessions, generating sheet music for cues, performing trumpet and guitar, in addition to creating custom sound palates and textures for the film’s unique aesthetic.

Performing on the trumpet, Luke has been featured on the TV shows Baskets, Shrink, and Special as well as the movies Beneath Us and The Lot.

Luke’s work while studying at Berklee included composing music for picture and concert pieces, in addition to songwriting and production of modern pop, jazz, rock, musical theater, hip-hop, and traditional styles of song forms. Working in this bustling creative environment gave him the opportunity to work in conducting, arranging, orchestrating and mixing film music.

He composed and engineered the underscore and sound effects for the actual-play RPG radio show KSUA Critical Hits as well as recording and producing it as a podcast. This earned him the 2018 Alaska Broadcasting Association “Best Show” award for KSUA Critical Hits. He was also the 2017 Thaw Out Film Festival “Best Music” award winner for Purse by Sarah Williams and Andrew Glynn.

Luke was born and raised in Fairbanks, Alaska and studied at Berklee College of Music, graduating Cum Laude in 2017 with a BM in Film Scoring and Songwriting. After moving back to Fairbanks, he took up the role of Interim Band Director at North Pole High School in 2017 and performed as Second Trumpet in the Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra during the 2017-2018 season.

He currently teaches trumpet, piano, guitar, ukulele, songwriting, and digital audio in a booming private studio. He arranges, produces, mixes, and masters the music for the band Duckling, besides playing synth leads, guitar, and trumpet.
